The Granma Cup in Cuba is likely the most difficult international Greco Roman wrestling tournament in the Western Hemisphere each year. This year countries from Europe, the Caribbean and the Americas sent their top competitors. Jordan's silver medal gave him the highest place on Team USA - and just as high or higher than any wrestler from any country besides Cuba, who won gold at every weight. According to the article here USA National Coach Steve Fraser commented, “We have to continue to improve our skills in all areas if we expect to qualify our weight classes for the Olympic Games in Orlando in March. The Cubans are very strong.” This is significant because each representative wrestler from the US needs to place in the top two at the Pan American Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament on March 23-25 in order to qualify his weight for London 2012. There is no seeding at this tournament. Bracket placement is decided by a blind computer draw after weigh-ins. This means the likelihood is high that some US and Cuban wrestlers will be on the same side of the bracket and only one of them will qualify.
